It caused a bit of a hush at our Sandbach logistics hub and offices when we saw the UK Government press release on 3rd February 2021 that more than 10 million people had been vaccinated against the awful coronavirus virus in just 8 weeks. Most were in the age bracket of 75 plus as this has been shown to be those at the highest risk.
With so many lives lost, and families devastated by the pandemic it is undoubtedly an astonishing achievement involving heroic NHS effort, huge amounts of money and military assistance to help us out of this crisis.
The Government has shown amazing care of the population and the full detail of the press release can be read on their website. It states that a total number of 10,021,471 have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in the UK. 498,962 people have received their second jab.
The Health Secretary Matt Hancock said:
This terrific achievement is testament to the monumental effort of NHS workers, volunteers and the armed forces who have been working tirelessly in every corner of the UK to deliver the largest vaccination programme in our history. Every jab makes us all a bit safer – I want to thank everyone for playing their part.
Part of the excellent effort by the Government to control the pandemic is a series of useful videos – we have included one from the DHSC to help with administering COVID-19 tests to children below:
